Dental implants are artificial substitutes for the root(s) of a missing natural tooth or teeth. They may be used to support a single crown, a series of crowns, a removable partial denture, or a complete denture. Dental implants result in total rehabilitation and their long-term results are proven to be as or more predictable and cost effective than conventional dental procedures.
When teeth are missing, the bone that previously supported those teeth melts away or deteriorates. This process is called bone resorption. When all of the teeth are missing, the jaws deteriorate rapidly, and as the bone melts away, the facial muscles migrate or pull back from their natural position. Your lips cave in as they lose support, and wrinkles increase dramatically as your facial structures collapse. Complete tooth loss and the deterioration of the jaws can also result in significant overall health problems related to improper digestion and malnutrition.

However, replacing missing tooth roots with dental implants can preserve the bone. Since the bone actually forms a strong bond to the implants, they can serve the same functions as natural tooth roots a strong foundation for biting and chewing, and stimulation for the bone to hold it in place. Dental implants also eliminate the need to prepare adjacent teeth for crowns, and the need for denture adhesives. With dental implants people are rediscovering the comfort and confidence to eat, speak, laugh and enjoy life.
